Gluten Free Story Friday - Chrissy A.
I was always symptomatic. If it wasn't complete exhaustion, it was a headache or gastrointestinal issues. I never felt "good". A few months ago, I was diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis. A disease that until recently, was confined to those in the age group that were older than my parents! I needed to do something asap! A specialist at MGH in Boston suggested that I try a gluten-free diet. I felt better almost immediately! The problem now was, what could I eat that didn't taste like cardboard, I could eat with my friends and not break my budget. (Did I mention I am only 25!) After trying many gluten-free products and relishing in the physical and mental benefits each had to offer. I was left saddened and disheartened about some rather important issues such as availability, cost and taste! My friends and family have worked with me to find a few go-to things that I know I can always find when out, but it's important to have quick on the go stuff at home. The Bakery On Main bars and gluten free granola have been my new best friends. It was difficult and frustrating in the beginning, but once I got the hang of this lifestyle change I have felt extremely better both mentally and physically. Chrissy Alves
