Bakery On Main Gluten-Free for a Week Challenge
As you may know this past Friday (3/22/2013) was Bakery On Main's 10th Birthday! We had a nice little birthday celebration complete with balloons, party hats and a delicious gluten free/non dairy/non GMO cake from Dee's One Smart Cookie in Glastonbury, CT! (To see us singing Happy Birthday and all the other photos check our Facebook page!)To start year number 11 off with a bang, we thought it would be great idea if we did something to better understand our customers. This is why the Bakery On Main Gluten-Free for a week challenge was created. Starting at 12:00 am today our Founder Michael Smulders was challenged to eat an entirely gluten-free diet until Sunday March 31st at 11:59 pm. In fact all of us in the main office will be challenging ourselves for a week to better understand the challenges that those with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance face on a daily basis. To make it even more of a challenge and more realistic we decided that everyone who is participating would have their own week to go at it alone! So Michael has already started and will continue through Sunday after that the schedule runs as follows:
Whitney - Monday April 1st - Sunday April 7thJennZ: Monday April 8th – Sunday April 14th Dave P: Monday April 15th – Sunday April 21st Bill G: Monday April 22st – Sunday April 28th Jenn S: Monday April 29th – Sunday May 5th Melissa: Monday May 6th – Sunday May 12th Kelly: Monday May 13th – Sunday May 19th Deirdre: Monday May 20th – Sunday May 26th Kim: Monday May 27th – Sunday June 2nd I thought it would be a good idea to try and capture what each of us are feeling throughout our weeks so I created the venting board that you see below. This way when we are feeling sad or hungry or are having cravings that newly diagnosed Celiacs may have, we can write them down for everyone to see.
